Biodegradable Bag (d2w Oxo-biodegradable)
Polyethylene bag with d2w oxo-biodegradable additive; DEKA is an accredited user of that technology. Dimensions, gauge and printing are set per order.
MaterialPE + d2w

Product description
- PE + d2w oxo-biodegradable additive
- Symphony Environmental accredited user certificate
- Flexographic printing, up to eight colours; also produced unprinted
- For non-food use; markets outside the EU
The biodegradable bag is produced by adding d2w oxo-biodegradable additive to conventional polyethylene. The additive does not replace the plastic; it goes into the formulation. DEKA Plastik is an accredited user of d2w oxo-biodegradable plastic technology; the certificate is issued by the additive manufacturer, Symphony Environmental.
What the certificate does and does not say
The document we hold is a user certificate: it shows that DEKA is authorised to use d2w technology. It does not prove degradation performance or duration — we set that distinction out explicitly on this page. In a buyer audit the question is exactly this: what does the document prove? We answer it here, before you order.
If you need a figure for degradation, the only source we can attribute is the additive manufacturer’s statement: according to Symphony Environmental, plastic with d2w additive biodegrades up to ninety times faster than ordinary plastic through bacteria common in soil and marine environments. That is not our measurement and should not be presented as such.
Not compostable
This product is not compostable and is not suitable for home or industrial composting. In Symphony’s own words, ASTM D6400 — the standard that measures industrial composting — is not relevant to this technology. We state this plainly because the two concepts are often confused.
Market note
This product is intended for markets outside the European Union. Directive (EU) 2019/904 prohibits placing products made from oxo-degradable plastic on the EU market. EU buyers should see our GRS bag, which carries a recycled-content scope certificate, or our Ecopure bag.
Limits
The product is not suitable for food contact; it is for non-food use. It also contains no recycled content — if you are looking for documented recycled content, see our GRS bag.
Variants
Printing is flexographic and goes up to eight colours; the bag is also produced unprinted. A side or bottom gusset can be given. Where retail shelf or peg display is needed, a hang hole is added. If the bag is used as a carrier, a handle or die-cut handle can be applied.
What do you need for a quote?
The weight and size of the product to be carried, your printing requirement, how many print colours you have in mind, which market it ships to, and your estimated annual volume. With that we work out the dimensions, gauge and print plan together.
Dimensions and gauge are set per order.

Frequently asked questions
What is d2w?
It is Symphony Environmental's d2w additive technology. It is added to a conventional polyethylene formulation; it does not replace the plastic, it goes into it. DEKA is an accredited user of this technology.
How long does it take to degrade?
We do not publish a duration, because degradation time depends on ambient conditions and DEKA has no measurement of its own. According to Symphony Environmental's statement, plastic with d2w additive biodegrades up to ninety times faster than ordinary plastic through bacteria common in soil and marine environments. That is the additive manufacturer's statement, not our measurement.
Is it compostable?
No. In Symphony's own words, ASTM D6400 is not relevant to this technology; that standard applies to degradation under the specific conditions of an industrial composting facility. This product is not suitable for home or industrial composting.
Can it be sold in the European Union?
This product is intended for markets outside the EU. Directive (EU) 2019/904 prohibits placing products made from oxo-degradable plastic on the EU market. If you are an EU buyer, see our GRS bag or Ecopure bag instead.
Can it be used for food-contact products?
No, this product is for non-food use. If you need food-contact packaging, see our food packaging category.
