DEKA Bottom-Welded Bag

Product description

  • Tubular film extrusion, weld-and-cut at the bottom
  • The weld sits at the bottom; the sides are film folds
  • A side gusset is available; no bottom gusset
  • Mono-material 100% polyethylene

The bottom-welded bag takes its name from how it is made. The film is first extruded as a tube, then weld-cut at the bottom on the cutting machine. The bag therefore carries a single weld at its base; the two side edges are not welds but folds of the film itself. Not all of DEKA’s polyethylene bags are made this way, and that is why we keep this product separate.

Production

The product is mono-material 100% polyethylene. The film is produced in our own facilities by blown extrusion in tubular form; there is no lamination, no barrier layer, no metallised layer and no non-polyethylene component such as paper, aluminium or polyamide. Flexographic printing is applied in our own facilities and goes up to eight colours. Cutting and sealing are also done in our own facilities.

What the bottom weld looks like

The bottom weld is a straight seal line across the base of the bag. It does not give the bag a standing bottom. If you are looking for a square-bottom bag or one that stands on its own, this is not that product.

Variants

On this product the gusset is given at the sides only; no bottom gusset is made. It is also produced without a gusset. A die-cut hand hole, a handle or a hanging hole can be added — these are options, and what defines the product is the construction rather than the handle. If a hand hole or a handle is what defines the packaging in your job, see our handle bags and hand-seal bags pages. The surface can be gloss or matt.

Material and compliance

The product can be made to two formulations and they exclude one another. For food-contact work only virgin polymer is used. Where recycled content is required, recycled polyethylene can be used at the requested share; that variant is for non-food use.

If you ship into the EU, this product falls within the scope of our declaration of material composition; you can find which documents you may request on our PPWR compliance page.

What do you need for a quote?

The size of what is packed, whether you want a handle or a hanging hole, whether a side gusset is needed, your printing requirement and your estimated annual volume. With that we work out the dimensions, gauge and print plan together.

Dimensions and gauge are set per order.

Frequently asked questions

Does the bag stand up? Does it have a flat bottom?

No. The bottom weld is a straight seal line across the base of the bag; it does not form a standing bottom. If you are looking for a square-bottom bag or one that stands on its own, this is not that product.

What is the difference between a bottom weld and a side weld?

Where the weld sits. In this product the film is extruded as a tube and then weld-cut at the bottom on the cutting machine; the single weld is at the base and the two side edges are folds of the film itself. Not all of DEKA's PE bags are made this way, which is why we keep this product separate.

Can you give it a bottom gusset?

No. On this product the gusset is given at the sides only; no bottom gusset is made. It is also produced without a gusset.

Can handles be added?

Yes, a die-cut hand hole, a handle or a hanging hole can be added. These are options; what defines the product is the construction, not the handle. If a hand hole or a handle is what defines the packaging in your job, see our handle bags and hand-seal bags pages.

What dimensions and gauge do you produce?

Dimensions and gauge are set per order. Tell us the size of what is packed and how the bag will be used, and we will settle the specification together.

Can it be used for food-contact products?

Yes, food-contact production is available on request. In that case only virgin polymer is used.
