MA/MH Postharvest Packaging
From harvest to consumer — active modified atmosphere and humidity packaging that protects fresh fruit and vegetables.
This page covers DEKA Plastik's fresh produce packaging line. We market the line under two brands: TrendLifeGold® and IMAP Crystal®.
Here you will find how the technology works and who makes the film. Which pack suits which produce is covered application by application on the brand sites.
How modified atmosphere and humidity management work
Harvested fruit and vegetables stay alive: they respire, consume oxygen and release carbon dioxide and ethylene. The faster that cycle runs, the sooner the produce softens, loses colour and decays. Modified atmosphere packaging turns the clock back by holding the gas composition inside the bag in a range that slows the produce's own respiration.
DEKA's postharvest bag is not passive but active — the working component is the bag itself. The additive system built into the film delivers antimicrobial activity, ethylene control and humidity management at the same time. The practical difference: no gas-flushing MAP machine is needed at the customer's end; the bag works on its own from the moment it is filled and closed. The additive system is nanotechnology-based; its composition is not disclosed for commercial reasons.
Humidity is managed by three mechanisms working together: the film's own water vapour permeability, microperforation and an anti-fog additive. Because all three are at work, relative humidity inside the bag stays in a range that neither dries the produce out nor allows condensation. The visible result is that no droplets form on the inner surface — even where there is no pre-cooling infrastructure. Condensation is not only a cosmetic problem; droplets on the produce surface create the conditions for mould and decay.
The outcome is a longer shelf life. How much time is gained depends on the produce, the harvest conditions and the state of the cold chain; we establish the real figure through a separate trial for each product.
We make the film on our own lines
The bag's performance starts with the film. The film used on this line is a PA/PE coextruded barrier structure — polyamide and polyethylene layers drawn together — produced on DEKA's own lines. Most of the other products on this site are single-layer polyethylene; the postharvest line is structurally different in this respect.
We have been in Yenibosna, Istanbul since 1993. Across our production plants the film is blown by direct extrusion, printed in our own flexographic facility and converted into bags on our cutting and sealing lines. In postharvest packaging we developed the world's first active MA/MH bag technology, and we keep extending the line through continuous R&D investment.
For the customer this means a single point of contact: when the film structure, size, print or format changes, there is one place to call.
Four packaging formats
The line is offered in four formats. We determine together which one suits your produce and your target market.
Bulk format
Retail
Preformed Retail Packaging
Roll Stock for Flow Pack
We market the line under two brands
Both brands belong to DEKA Plastik; neither is a separate legal entity. Product and application selection happens on the brand sites.
Quality and food safety
Certificate numbers are shared at the quotation stage.
